Aston Villa Football Club - SEN Football Tournament

"Football is not about one or two or three star players. It's about the team." – Xavi

On Thursday 3rd October, our KS3 Football took part in the Aston Villa SEN Football League.

On our arrival, the excitement of the opportunity was clear for all to see. The facilities were of a professional standard which the students relished. After a quick warmup the students were eager to play their first game of the Tournament. Unfortunately, Uffculme were beaten 3-1 by a strong opposition. However, the students did not let this result affect their confidence or enjoyment and made sure they shook the hands of their opposition and congratulate them on their win.

After a short 5 minute break the players dusted themselves off, rolled up their sleeves and went again. This time the result went in the favour of Uffculme, winning 7-0. More impressively than the result, the team were very modest and humble.

The games came thick and fast and the team were back playing again, passing the ball around like prime Barcelona and a result that reflected this. 5-0 was the result which the team were very pleased with.

The team carried their brilliant form into the 4th game in which they dominated from the first whistle, finding themselves with a comfortable 6-0 lead. During this game, the most heart-warming moment in football in which Uffculme celebrated with the opposition when they managed to find a way through the rigid defence and score their first goal of the tournament. Both teams celebrated together which was lovely to see.

The final match was by far the most compelling. End to end football, with both teams pushing for a winner. Some outstanding defending from Uffculme and some great saves from the opposition goalkeeper meant that the points were shared. One of the most entertaining 0-0 draws I have ever seen.

So Uffculme finished the day with 10 points out of a possible 15, but again more impressively than the performance of the team was the way they conducted themselves.

A credit to the school. Well done to students and the staff who supported them.
